Inspired by walks along the Rio Grande where I often stopped under a road bridge in Sunland Park, NM to view the graffiti and other signs of human activity. Sometimes I came across Mexicanmigrants hiding behind concrete pillars, standing naked in the water and holding their clothes over their heads to keep them dry. They called out sounds to others nearby to signify whether encroaching footsteps were La Migra or just folks. The memory of sounds, the light reflecting off the water onto the graffiti and the empty food wrappers is more than image or narrative. I call it a song.
