This painting developed while I’d been thinking about the nature of paradox and how the recognition of it is crucial if I want to have any understanding at all about the truth of things. The two-headed bird is a play on the paradox of opposites—male vs. female, life vs. death, being and nothingness. One cannot be defined unless the other is defined as well. They either exist together or they don’t exist at all.
